SUBJECT:  Final Quarter Progress Report

Dear Dr. Morgan:

Dear Sir:

Enclosed please find a copy of the second quarter research progress report for my research study on Food Preference by Fruit Fly Influenced by Yeast Content.  The progress report is being submitted for your review and in compliance with contract commitments.

No problems were encountered in this quarter of research and stream observations each month were taken on schedule following the procedures laid out in the methods and materials section of the report.  Resulting information has been compiled in graphs and is being interpreted for the final report period.

Should you have questions or comments concerning the second quarter progress report, please contact me at (931) 372-3134 [email maeliafue21@tntech.edu].

Sincerely,

Melvin A. Elias

Project Summary

The question I intend to answer is whether there is a relationship between yeast rich content preferences in food and minute-yeast containing food. Ripe fruit containing a significant amount of yeast were used along with standard media containing a minute amount of yeast added by the manufacturer. To answer this question, my objective is to observe fruit fly behavior to see if there is a relationship between the two.

I plan to meet this goal by taking collected data from observed cases monitored during experiments and calculating averages and analyzing the data; then further submitting these findings to a more extensive analysis using Anova statistics. I anticipate that I will find a relationship between ripe fruit and yeast content and that fruit flies will seldom prefer those foods with a small amount of yeast content. My null hypothesis is that there will be no differences between flow high yeast content and minute yeast content.

  Work Accomplished to Data

To date, data have been taken and analyzed from specific number subjects found on each type of food presented to the fruit flies. Data are being processed and results and conclusions will be made in the final progress report.

Plans and Anticipated Work for Next Reporting Period

By the next reporting period, the results and conclusions in relationship Food Preference by Fruit Fly Influenced by Yeast Content will be finalized.

Problems Encountered and Actions Taken

There have been no major problems encountered at this time. However, several attempts had to be made to collect a substantial number of fruit flies for one run has been a waiting game for this experiment.

Appraisal or Evaluation of Progress to Date

To date, all samples have been taken and are being analyzed.

Recommendations

It would be a good idea for a later similar experiment to separate the samples by gender to test for preferences of yeast by gender.
